one to one
before you take up practice, bamboo is just bamboo
after years of training, bamboo becomes something else
when you become enlightened, bamboo is just bamboo again
you wonder why you bothered

1-to-1 dharma guidance and dharma teaching
I am available to give private 1-to-1 Dharma guidance and Dharma teaching.
I normally see people where I live in North Yorkshire.
When Dharma teachings are given by a teacher to a student, a transmission takes place. So, teaching should always be done in person in order to maintain this valuable aspect of Buddhist teaching. After working with a student for some time, it is possible to work occationally over the telephone, but the in person aspect should also be continued.

dharma guidance
Dharma guidance is for people who are looking for advice on any aspect of the Dharma and Dharma practice, but are not necessarily looking for a teacher. These consultations are open to everyone, from complete beginners.to those with experience, anyone who has questions about the Dharma..

dharma teaching
Dharma teaching is for those who are looking at taking up dedicated practice in Buddha Dharma, and are looking for a teacher. I am happy to take on students, but I do have certain conditions. As Buddhism is a tradition based on Ahimsa (non violence) and compassion, I expect my students to:
FOLLOW A VEGAN LIFESTYLE , BE ALCOHOL TOBACCO AND DRUG FREE
If you wish to practice with me, you will need to give up any other practices you are doing, and focus on those you will be given, and read any texts that I recommend for your study.
I work with the three traditional limbs of training
CONDUCT – MEDITATION – WISDOM
I ask people who are looking to be my students, to come and see me two or three times before they commit to anything. That way you can see if I am right for you, and I can decide if I think you will be a serious practitioner.

general spiritual advice
You can also come to see me if you are practicing in a different tradition, or not connected to any tradition, but would like to seek some guidance or general advice on spiritual practice or living a spiritual life..

no charge for dharma teaching
Buddhist monks do not charge a fee for teaching the dharma (as it is priceless!). But it is a custom to offer a voluntery donation (dana) when you visit them for advice and teaching. This is normally placed in an envelope and given to the teacher when you visit them. This is not for the valuable teachings, but to help support the monk in his life and practice, plus travelling expenses, accommodation etc. You should only give what you feel is appropriate, and what you can afford.
If you do not have any funds available, you should still go and see the Lama/teacher and recieve his teachings and blessings. This is more important than the money.
Please note that I now have my state pension coming in, which is enough for me to live on, so if you wish to make a donation, do not give it to me, but please make a donation to an animal charity. You will find some listed on the “links” page.
